Pharmaceuticals in the LimeLight
A doctor’s purpose, no matter the specialty, is to treat the patient. Most frequently this is done using drugs. Ever wondered how these are made? PILL is a brand new SOMS workshop that aims at introducing medical students into the pharmaceutical world.
This hands-on workshop takes place at Slavia Pharm – a pharmaceutical factory that produces tablets, capsules and medicinal gels. You will start with a guided tour which will introduce you to the various steps involved in making a drug – from the active ingredient to the finished product, including many stages of quality, safety and efficacy control.
Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to work on equipment used for drug research & development, similar to that used for large-scale production. You will be making two different types of pharmaceutical products. The end product will be yours to take home and we bet your hands started to get rougher from all the hand sanitizer – so why not create your very own hand cream?
Safety measures will be taken, as each participant will be provided with protection equipment (disposable gown, gloves and face shields).
